Teacher Evaluation and Professional Growth Policy
The
evaluation of teaching performance is acknowledged as an important
means of promoting excellence in education at Theodore Elementary
School.
The
goal of Theodore Elementary School’s Professional Growth Program
is to bring teachers into the process as partners with administrators
in ways that support their professional growth, and enhance student
learning through effective instructional practices.
The
evaluation framework is designed to help first to third year teachers
survive the challenges of teaching; ensure that standards for
effective teaching are understood, accepted and demonstrated by veteran
teachers; and provide the guidance for teachers and principals when
improvement and intervention is needed.
The
Professional Growth Program is modeled after the framework that is
being used across the state of North Dakota as well as the Nation, as
it aligns with the Common Core Standards for instruction.
Each
teacher will spend time learning about the domains and rubrics of
quality instruction, will complete a self-evaluation based on Kim
Marshal’s Model for evaluation, set up a time to discuss the
self-evaluation with the principal, discuss goals based on the
self-evaluation, demonstrate excellence in teaching, based on the
goals, schedule a final evaluation meeting with the principal, and sign
off on the completed cycle. If needs are
found, the teacher and principal will develop an improvement plan and
repeat the cycle to resolve the deficiencies and demonstrate growth.
